Push-ups are an intermediate-level bodyweight exercise that primarily works your abs, obliques and shoulders, with support from your glutes, lower back. No equipment needed — your bodyweight and a bit of floor space are enough.

how it’s done, step by step

  1. Start in a plank position with your hands placed directly under your shoulders and your body forming a straight line from head to heels.
  2. Lower your body towards the floor by bending your elbows, keeping them close to your torso.
  3. Push through your palms to lift your body back up to the starting plank position.
  4. Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.
